Kuroshitsuji Chapter 62 Review

As expected, this was indeed a flashback chapter- and it was brilliant. The amount of characterization we see was phenomenal. We’ve been given a few small answers about Ciel’s past, but more importantly we take a very interesting look into Sebastian’s mind. We’re reminded that, in a nutshell, Sebastian is a demon and has a diabolical nature. I have to admit I was completely shocked by how menacing Sebastian was when he treated Ciel so roughly in the bath- (hough, I admit, I would’ve been angry too at his behavior!) in essence, Sebastian’s comments and overall demeanor in this chapter makes his somewhat frightening, but we see that he is quite obviously flawed. As if in response to all of the fans who said Sebastian is ‘too perfect,’ Toboso shows us that he did not become a Phantomhive butler overnight at all.

I found the milk and honey motif very cute, by the way. It’s nice to see this childish remnants of Ciel and that scene tied into a previous mention nicely- if you recall when Madame Red was murdered, Sebastian stroked Ciel’s cheek and promised him a cup of milk with honey once they returned home. Not only do I applaud Toboso for clearly having depth behind even the smallest of things, I admit that it makes that moment a good deal sweeter. Now, I suspect Yana will either continue with another flashback, leading to a change in perspective on Sebastian’s part, or a glimpse back into what Ciel is dealing with- and I admit, I’d personally love it if we could get a glimpse into both minds. Being able to hear what Ciel is thinking as Undertaker attacked Sebastian would be priceless, no doubt. In essence, a wonderful chapter this week that has left me completely in need of a follow-up! Please do hurry up and become November! <3

Now, what made this chapter shine for me was all the subtleties about it. I was shocked by the stark difference between their relationship then and now, whereas each instant of physical contact, every side comment or shared often sinsiter! smile between the two, more so the moments where Ciel has clung onto Sebastian, have a whole different sort of depth. As some have already noticed, this chapter does mention that milk and honey was a sort of comfort food of Ciel’s, which makes the notion of Sebastian offering it after Madame Red’s death a touch kinder.

Are you serious? A Kuroshitsuji/Card Captor Sakura cross-over drawing? Yana Toboso, you know just what to do to make me love you more and more with each drawing you make, don’t you? (I am assuming she drew this, despite it not being her style, since she posted it on her blog. This may be the work of someone else, as I cannot read what was written on her blog.

Ciel as….Sakura. This is too much. I suppose Sebastian is Kero, now, hmm?

So in regards to chapter 60, it seems like things are taking their roll down after the climax onto the falling action. Essentially, it’s revealed to us that Undertaker has long-since abandoned his duties as a Shinigami in order to delve into the forbidden practice of altering cinematic records, which does explain why Yana Toboso would allow the anime production team to say that he is, in the anime’s universe, a great and infamous shinigami.

So, it’s revealed that he’s been toying with people all along and that, now, he’s set on a rather sadistic path to use his living corpses as weapons. This, of course, spurs on a fight in which the chapter ends with, between Grell, Ronald, Sebastian and the Undertaker- and, as expected, he seems very chill about this.

My predictions lie in the Undertaker pulling a fast one on all of them. He’s already claimed that the Shinigami don’t have the means to harm him- to me, that will imply that Sebastian will, essentially, have to be the one to bring him down. So, I expect Sebastian to be torn between the offensive and his duty to protect Ciel, which I am certain Undertaker will use to his advantage- the added affect of this sudden betrayal and his old ties with Ciel’s father will probably lead to Ciel being rather saddened and definitely bring about more revelations in regards to the Phantomhives. I also get the feeling that William may end up having to show up to aid Grell and Ronald (begrudgingly, of course). Whelp, that’s my two cents- Now to entertain myself with AoEx and No. 6 until next month!

My favorite artists.

Just for the sake of mentioning it, in response to “Fact 31” about myself, here’s a list of my favorite artists:

Favorite Digital Artists

  • Yana Toboso: I love this women- her art has a certain dark ambiance about itself that I truly love and her manga, Kuroshitsuji, is deep and compelling. Her character designs, sense of fashion and the way she draws such handsome male characters is to die for.
  • Kine in AQUA: Another talented artists when it comes to drawing men (does drawing Yaoi make you that good at it? Both Yana Toboso and Kine have done so, haha!). I love the way she draws hair and the solemn expressions she uses.
  • Kkuem: This artist always has dynamic poses and amazing coloring. Kkuem’s art is always vibrant and lively, and the subjects are always curvy women which, admittedly, are very beautiful.
  • Kaze-Hime/Holly: Holly draws amazingly! Her lines are crisp and clean and the manner she draws expressions, hair and clothing is very signature about herself. Her artwork is always very classy and cute. She’s also extremely well-mannered, I admire the bits of her personality that I have seen.

Favorite Traditional Artists

  • Kaoru-Chan: Kaoru-Chan is an artist I deeply admire- the way she handles markers is amazing and her ability to make vibrant, beautiful images traditionally and digitally is beyond me. I love how she colors and her creativeness when it comes to pictures that have environment and setting.
  • Cartoongirl7: Another artist I admire on a personal level. She seems like a kind, well-rounded person and I love her sense of fashion. Her art is cute and her subjects always have amazing clothes and a wonderful, happy vibe about them. She is an artist I hope to be like, one that can balance her secular life and artwork to a good measure, all the while being humble and kind to her fans. I also would really love to have a fashion sense as amazing as hers.
  • Nheira: Though I am not a fan of his more grotesque artwork, I can’t help but admit that he draws men very creatively. They always have a very strong, masculine look about themselves and his talent with digital and traditional artwork is great.

Another artist I deeply admire and deserves mentioning is my dear friend, Alex. I know her personally and she is a precious friend whom I love- her art is intricate, dark and creative. Her style is unique and her characters are always gorgeous- I’ve actually fallen for almost all her guy characters at one point or another! She’s also an immensely talented writer. You can follower her on Tumblr here.

Another close friend of mine who is a talented artist is Melissa, who’s work you can find here. She is a traditional artists who always impresses me with her creativity, attention to detail and immense talent at adopting different artist styles. Her work has impressed me since the day we met!

I hope you guys enjoyed this long ramble. Excuse the immense note taking up your dash, but these are artists worth the attention and praise. Do look them up, will you? I’ve supplied links to their art pages, so just click away- open new tabs and understand what I’m talking about!

Alot of people liked the Kuro-related posts I spammed last night, so because I noticed some of my new followers are fans of the show, I think I’ll post some more.

To all my followers who don’t like anime/manga, please excuse me. -smile-

I’m suddenly overcome by the craving to read some Kuroshitsuji right now. Why must I have to wait until next month? Why?!

Kuroshitsuji Challenge: 17. Favorite Voice

I love Sebastian’s voice. I love hearing the character songs sung by Daisuke Ono, his voice actor in japanese, I adore J. Michael Tatum’s voice in the english version and even in the musical, Sebastian’s voice was great! Yuya Matsushita is a very wonderful singer~

Anyways, the point is I thought all the casted choices for Sebastian were great. They definitely vary between the english adaption, the japanese original and the musical but I feel they all are very interesting takes on what voice he would have, and they all have a certain attractiveness in their own right. (Besides, I kinda go crazy over English accents.)

Kuroshitsuji Challenge: 16. Favorite Fanart

Favorite fan art? I simply can’t pick! I draw fan art all the time and find it’s a perfectly good exercise to draw and show your appreciation for a character, so I love looking at fan art online. So, instead of a single drawing, I’ll include a couple of my person favorites into a slide show. That’s good enough, right? I hope you enjoy them! :)
